The court for the first time imposed a billing fine of 115 million rubles on Zoom, TASS reports. The reason was the lack of a branch of the company in Russia.

The court fined Zoom 115 million rubles for operating in Russia without a branch

The amount of the fine is 1/10 of the company’s income for 2022. This is the first case of a fine for the fact that a company did not create a branch in the Russian Federation.

The protocol regarding Zoom was drawn up by Roskomnadzor in September 2023. The reason is that Zoom Video Communications Inc is located in the USA, but operates in Russia and has not opened a branch or representative office here.

Zoom was accused of violating the law “On the activities of foreign persons on the territory of the Russian Federation.” From the case materials it appears that more than 400 thousand users in Russia use Zoom daily and the structure receives money from Russian individuals and organizations.

According to the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation, for this crime, legal entities face a fine of one tenth of the income for the year preceding the violation.

In July 2022, Zoom was fined 1 million rubles for violating the law on localization of personal data. On October 12, 2023, the company was fined again for repeatedly refusing to locate the data of Russian users, but already for 15 million rubles.
