Scientists from Lomonosov Moscow State University have developed a new model to predict the survival rate of patients with lung adenocarcinoma, the most common type of lung cancer. This disease is often discovered in the late stages, when treatment becomes difficult.
The model predicts patient survival by analyzing proteins that control the state of mitochondria in lung cells. Mitochondria are important organelles that provide energy to cells and participate in cellular respiration. If mitochondria do not work properly, it can lead to various diseases, including cancer.
Researchers examined the levels of regulatory proteins that control mitochondria in tissue samples from lung adenocarcinoma patients. Using this data and other patient information, they created a model to predict survival. This model showed 20% higher accuracy than existing methods. Scientists plan to further develop this technology.
