Apple allowed Russian developers to use third-party payment systems in their applications for iOS and iPadOS devices. However, Apple charges 27% for transactions made through these third-party systems; This is lower than the standard 30% fee charged by AppStore.
This decision follows a court decision in July 2022 that found Apple guilty of violating antitrust laws. Russia’s Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) accused Apple of forcing Russian developers to use its payment tool and banning them from informing users about other payment methods. As a penalty for the violation, Apple had to pay 1.2 billion rubles.
The company has now allowed Russian developers to add external links to third-party payment systems to provide users with alternative payment methods. This feature is only available to Russian developers and should not be shown to users in other countries. Any mention of third-party payment systems must comply with company rules.
