Collins Dictionary names “artificial intelligence” as word of the year

“Artificial intelligence” has been named word of the year by the Collins British Dictionary. This was reported by the representative office of the dictionary publisher.

To determine the “word of the year”, representatives of the dictionary analyzed texts published in 2023 in books, media and the Internet. This year there is more talk about artificial intelligence than other phenomena, Collins said.

Collins’ shortlist also included the terms de-influencer (the use of social media to encourage people to avoid certain products), nepo baby (a person who is successful thanks to their parents’ celebrity).

In 2022, Collins’ word of the year was “permacrisis,” a state of prolonged instability in the absence of security.
