ElectricLight has an external article detailing how Game Mode works in macOS Sonoma to improve Mac gaming performance.

Testing was conducted on a Mac Studio with the M1 Max chip, which has:

▪️Central processor with eight productive cores and two energy-efficient ones
▪️24-core graphics

This computer was running Asphalt 9: Legends.

Game mode started working 10 seconds after starting the game in full screen mode. The power consumption of the central processor remained unchanged and increased by 0.4-0.5 W. At the same time, the graphics chip began to consume 8-15 W more.

Therefore, the main performance boost comes from the graphics, not the CPU.

The load on the schedule has increased from 45-55% to 85-95%, although without the game mode it is around 40%.

The mode also quickly turns on the delay of Bluetooth controllers and audio devices, but it is impossible to track these values in macOS. [ElectricLight]
