The first images of Xiaomi’s new operating system HyperOS were leaked to the internet this Wednesday (18). A test version of the software is floating around the internet, allowing users to get to know the new interface before it is officially released.

As the images show, many apps have a reworked look to fit the new interface. But the overall experience (at least in this version) is quite comparable to traditional MIUI.

The main difference is in the wallpaper and customization settings section of HyperOS. Here users can access wallpaper previews, tweaks for the lock screen (clock style, quick info, and more), and customization suggestions.

The quick settings tray, now called “Control Center”, is very similar to the one in MIUI. It includes buttons for the mobile phone’s main functions, adjusting brightness and volume, media control, and shortcuts for managing smart devices.

The new Control Center provides access to the main shortcuts of the mobile phone.

Gallery, File Management, Weather, Messages, Alarm, Calculator, Calendar and Clock applications have changed significantly. They all make use of icons with rounded corners, white backgrounds, and tabbed navigation.

Apps have received visual improvements in HyperOS.

Although it is a preview version of the operating system, the leak includes a new loading animation and the screen switching from Always On Display to standard mode.

New look for MIUI

Although it is promoted as a new operating system, HyperOS is seen as a sort of new skin of MIUI and not necessarily a replacement. The system may be MIUI 15 and not a completely new operating system, as the screenshots show.

Additionally, an X (Twitter) tipster known as Kacper Skrzypek highlighted that APKs are still calling the system MIUI 15 and not HyperOS. In fact, there is no reference to the new name for now; instead there is just the general heading “System” or “Operating System”.

HyperOS coming in 2024

The new HyperOS was announced on Monday (16) and will be released during 2024. The new system will be released on Xiaomi’s next top model, the Xiaomi 14.

The idea is that HyperOS will gradually take over the MIUI space, serving as a central point for controlling Xiaomi devices.
