“Yandex.Music” and “Sound” divided the audience of streaming services that left Russia. The number of Sound users in January-September 2023 increased 5.2 times year-on-year, and Yandex.Music – 1.5 times. Traffic for these services has also increased exponentially.
The number of users of Russian music streaming services increased several times in 2023 against the background of the departure of Western streaming services from the Russian market. This was reported by the telecommunications operator Yota based on data from its research.
The audience of “Zvuk” in the period from January to September grew 5.2 times year-on-year and the volume of traffic increased by 170%. Yandex.Music grew 1.5 times in users and 155% in traffic. VK Music’s growth is less significant: plus 0.4% of users and 1.4% of traffic.
In total, Russian audio streaming increased its audience by 25% and traffic consumption by 36%. According to Yota, the main increase in listeners (93%) occurred thanks to users over 25 years of age.
At the same time, YouTube Music lost 78% of Russian traffic during the reporting period, Apple Music – 41% of traffic.
