A recent CNN report revealed serious algorithmic flaws, from false headlines claiming US President Joe Biden fell asleep during a moment of silence for Maui fire victims (which turned out to be untrue) to false obituaries insulting the memory of those who died.
The use of artificial intelligence in journalism is nothing new, and many publications, including the BBC and the Associated Press, have long been experimenting with content automation.
However, MSN’s experience shows that automated systems can produce content containing unnecessarily offensive language and clearly false statements, raising questions about liability for such errors.
It is worth noting that when it comes to artificial intelligence, there are neither careless journalists nor editors who can take responsibility for the mistakes made.
