Scammers began calling Russians through private advertising platforms. Under the pretext of advance payment, they obtain the card details and a code to access the bank’s personal account from an SMS. They used to write for this in chats, but security systems have learned to identify them, writes Izvestia.

Scammers began to call Russians through advertising services.

The dialogue with a potential victim consists of two stages. First, the scammer presents himself as the buyer and says that he is willing to transfer a deposit or full payment to the card for the merchandise. Then he obtains the card number and SMS code under the pretext of “transfer confirmation”.

This is how the attacker assesses a person’s financial situation, after which the victim receives a call supposedly from the bank’s security service or law enforcement agencies and reports suspicious transactions on the account. And then they remind you of a suspicious incident with the advertising platform and finally offer to transfer funds to a “secure account.” In fact, it turns out to be a scam.

According to experts, the danger of this type of calls is also that anti-spam and anti-fraud filters still do not protect against them.
