The material is based on silicon, germanium and tin, the combination of which provides unique properties. Heterostructures were synthesized by molecular beam epitaxy and ordered layered structures were formed under vacuum conditions. This material could become the basis of photonic crystals that can convert electrical signals into optical signals and back into optical signals, promising significant advances in the development of electronic components.
