Since the beginning of September, Russian Post has stopped delivering parcels from branches using Yandex Rovers. The cost of this shipment was 1 ruble. The reasons why this decision was made are not made public, writes Vedomosti.
The operator spent approximately 1 million rubles per month on the maintenance of 36 mobile vehicles and the rental cost was the same. Thus, the company spends approximately 24 million rubles a year, calculated Oleg Kivokurtsev, founder of the Russian robot manufacturer Promobot.
Furthermore, 36 delivery robots were not enough for Post; he might need about 150 rovers. According to the expert, the cost of such a vehicle can reach up to 5 million rubles.
At the end of 2022, Pochta recorded RAS losses of 27.2 billion rubles and revenues of 208 billion rubles. Thus, the company’s negative profitability was 13%.
As for 2023, in the first quarter losses amounted to 5 billion rubles and revenues amounted to 50 billion rubles. Direct revenue from postal services fell by 5%.
The Federation Council was outraged that “no one reacts” to the growing financial hole of the Russian Post. Subsequently, the board of directors of Russian Post decided to conduct an independent audit of the company’s expenses. The procedure is designed to evaluate the financial model and the need for additional government support for the company.
