Apple will not have time to develop its own chip to replace Qualcomm, Bloomberg writes. The previously announced deadline suggested that Apple would complete development of the processor in spring 2025, but the company encountered difficulties. Apple’s chip supply deal with Qualcomm extends through 2026.
Apple is having difficulty developing its own chips and will not be able to complete it in time. The company planned to do this by spring 2025, but now may not do it by 2026, Bloomberg notes.
The agreement between Apple and its chip supplier, the American Qualcomm, runs until 2026. Qualcomm supplies Apple with Snapdragon modem systems.
Apple is Qualcomm’s largest customer, accounting for a quarter of the company’s revenue, according to Bloomberg.
