Both companies were important advertisers of the provocative social network. Their example was also followed by film companies Disney, LionsGate, Paramount and Sony Pictures, as reported by the Hollywood Reporter.
Musk faced a huge public backlash after 164 rabbis and activists called on Apple, Google, Amazon and Disney to stop advertising on X due to the businessman’s inappropriate likes. Human rights activists have also called on Apple and Google to remove X from their platforms.
In addition to filmmakers, Apple and IBM, Amazon and Oracle were among the companies whose ads ran alongside far-right publications, according to a report by Media Matters for America.
X’s official position, expressed by CEO Linda Yaccarino, is “very clear”: “This has no place anywhere in the world, it’s ugly and it’s wrong. Period.” Elon Musk too fixedwhich will block users who call for genocide of any ethnic group.
An X executive told Axios that the company “conducted a review of the accounts found by Media Matters and [больше] It will not be monetized.”
