The name of the ship was approved taking into account the proposal of Russian President Vladimir Putin, who emphasized the importance of preserving the historical memory of the feat of the defenders of Stalingrad during the Great Patriotic War.
Regional head Andrey Bocharov noted that the historical document regarding this decision was transferred to the Volgograd Regional Veterans Council for safekeeping.
Project 22220 icebreakers with a capacity of 60 megawatts are the largest and most powerful icebreakers in the world, equipped with two RITM-200 reactors and capable of breaking ice up to three meters thick, guiding convoys of ships in Arctic conditions.
