OpenAI’s board of directors approached competitor Anthropic’s CEO Dario Amodei and offered him the position of Sam Altman, who left OpenAI, The Information and Reuters report.

According to the publication’s interlocutors, the proposal also included plans to merge both companies. However, Dario Amodei rejected both options, sources say.

The Anthropic co-founders also served as directors of OpenAI until 2020. They parted ways with their colleagues due to contradictions regarding the safe development and management of artificial intelligence.

Google, Amazon and Spark Capital have invested in the company.

Previously, the OpenAI board of directors fired Sam Altman, believing that he was not sincere enough and that this hindered work. His place was taken by the former CEO of streaming service Twitch, Emmet Shear.

Altman himself went to work at Microsoft; Amid this news, the company’s shares on the Nasdaq skyrocketed to an all-time high.
