Sam Altman returns to OpenAI as CEO. The company announced this to X. Co-founder Greg Brockman will also return to the board of directors.
“We have reached an agreement in principle that Sam Altman will return to OpenAI as CEO with a new initial board of directors consisting of Bret Taylor (chairman), Larry Summers and Adam D’Angelo,” the company said in a statement.
Previously, the OpenAI board of directors fired Sam Altman, believing that he was not sincere enough and that this hindered work. His place would be taken by the former CEO of the streaming service Twitch, Emmett Shear. He confirmed the appointment and shared plans to conduct an independent investigation into Altman’s firing.
Altman himself, after leaving OpenAI, planned to move to Microsoft; Upon this news, the corporation’s shares soared to an all-time high. And most of the OpenAI team (505 out of 700 people) threatened the company to leave for Microsoft after Altman if the board of directors that fired him did not resign.
“I love OpenAI and everything I’ve done in the last few days has been to keep this team and its mission together.” commented Altman his return.
Microsoft noted that it agrees with Altman’s return, and chief researcher Ilya Sutskever, who participated in the board’s decision, acceptedthat he made a mistake.
