Associate Professor Raede Basiri analyzed the scientific literature and concluded that poor quality nutrition (processed foods) affects human health in two ways. The first increases the risk of type 2 diabetes, the second causes depression, anxiety and other mental problems.

According to experts, mental disorders such as anxiety and depression increase the likelihood of developing type 2 diabetes. However, diabetes is also associated with a higher risk of anxiety and depression.

The team also found that eating more fresh vegetables and fruits, whole grains, lean protein and low-fat dairy products was associated with a reduced likelihood of developing mental disorders and type 2 diabetes.
