The founder of IT company Inspector Cloud, Alexander Berenov, sold part of the business to its CEO Vladimir Khrapko. The transaction amount and other details are not disclosed. Representatives of the startup reported this to RB.RU.
According to the Unified State Register of Legal Entities, in 2022 the company’s revenue amounted to 172.9 million rubles. In the summer of 2023, the businessman announced his withdrawal from the project, adding that, according to the survey, the share price ranged between 0.5 and 1 times annual revenue.
Among the main reasons for the sale, the IT entrepreneur mentioned the transition of the business from risk to regular. In his opinion, Inspector Cloud is one of the leading companies on the Russian market.
“But investors are reluctant to invest in startups with Russian founders. Consequently, the business development model that was proposed at the beginning is not very viable: investments in new companies are at a historically zero level. After that, I realized that for me, under such circumstances, having a stake in a Russian company is an additional headache. That is why I resorted to cash in the current situation, and it is like winning the lottery, because no one wants to give money to withdraw money,” he noted.
According to RB.RU sources, The company’s revenue could have been reduced by at least half and Berenov received little money from the sale. around $50 thousand The publication’s interlocutors called this “compensation for the former CEO who retired.” The businessman owned almost 25% and “even if there was a lower valuation limit of 0.5 times, then Berenov should have received several times more.”
Currently, the entrepreneur is developing a product concept to accelerate sales. The startup is still in an early phase and is preparing to raise funds and is also testing with early users.
Alexander Berenov founded the startup Inspector Cloud in 2016. This is a SaaS application for retail audits based on computer vision. The application helps sales representatives recognize products and generate reports. The technology works on the basis of neural networks. The company trained 12 specialists outside the network for various tasks in the audit process.
