In the study, scientists simulated the effects of space conditions on male mice by exposing them to high levels of radiation and weightlessness. The results, published in the FASEB journal, show the damaging effects of spaceflight on vascular tissue, causing permanent erectile dysfunction. What is even more worrying is that this effect persists despite a long recovery period.
Vascular changes caused by low doses of cosmic radiation and weightlessness impair sexual health by increasing oxidative stress. But it also has a positive side. Scientists recommend the use of antioxidants to combat the effects of space exposure.
