The US, UK and 16 other countries support the agreement, which commits them to steps to make AI “safe by design”.

In the 20-page document, 18 countries face the challenge that companies developing and using AI must build it in a way that protects customers and protects the public from misuse.

Head of CISA (approx. US Cybersecurity Agency) Jen Easterly said the most important aspect of AI development is a focus on human safety:

The capabilities delivered shouldn’t just be about cool features and how quickly we can get them to market or how we can compete to cut costs. The guidelines provide an agreement that the most important thing to do in a modern design phase is safety.

The initiative is purely about how hackers can take advantage of artificial intelligence systems. It does not address the much larger question of how artificial intelligence systems themselves can take their rightful place for humanity. [9to5]
