While the majority of Steam’s library is 64-bit, older Mac users may lose access to 32-bit games, which will negatively impact their “gaming experience.” Steam Support will not provide technical assistance and security updates for these versions of macOS will be discontinued.
Valve’s decision follows the example of Google, which stopped supporting Chrome for macOS 10.13 and 10.14. By the end of 2023, the Steam store will no longer honor games with 32-bit macOS binaries compatible with Mac. This move only affects a select group, as less than 2% of Mac users on Steam are running macOS 10.14 or earlier.
