The president and chairman of the board of directors of Sberbank, German Gref, although he does not yet plan to leave his position, is already preparing his successors. Gref stated this while he was speaking at Investor Day on Wednesday.
Last month, the Supervisory Board of Sberbank re-elected Gref for another four years. He has headed the bank since 2007.
Gref explained that “building” a strong team for the future is the key responsibility of any leader. According to Gref, it is important to create conditions under which the departure of a leader does not come as a serious shock.
Now, according to the president and the chairman of the board of directors, Sber has a very strong team. However, when someone leaves, it is important “that…the squadron does not notice the loss of a fighter.”
“Our task is to have two successors in each position. For me there are no exceptions, so I really hope that in this sense the company will survive absolutely stably, including my replacement,” said the head of Sberbank.
During his speech, Gref addressed not only the topic of his own future, but also the prospects of the entire organization. According to him, the company is working on different scenarios for the development of the banking sector, including the “doomsday scenario.”
“The key risk is geopolitics, I don’t see any comparable risk; a whole series of derivative risks arise from there,” Gref said, noting that in the end this risk will also decrease.
