The technology, developed by LG Innotek, will initially be used only for Face ID but will also integrate the front camera under the screen, marking a step towards a fully end-to-end design.
Apple’s long-term goal for the iPhone is a “monolithic glass” device with an all-screen front.
But the obstacle to this is the technologies that need to be built into the screen, including the top-mounted speaker, proximity sensor, Face ID array and front camera.
According to The Elec, Apple plans to introduce this technology “after 2026,” meaning before the iPhone 19 in 2027.
