Alcohol waste, a bulk liquid waste, often accumulates in landfills, causing environmental problems. Scientists have found that a specific type of yeast, Candida tropicalis, can rapidly multiply and accumulate biomass on this fertilizer. The resulting biomass can be used in animal feed.

Nikita Evdokimov, Associate Professor of the Department of Omsk State Technical University, noted that recycling waste using this yeast improves the environmental performance of waste due to nutrient consumption. He also emphasized that physical or chemical treatment of these yeasts could significantly increase the safety of stagnation and improve biomass accumulation results.
