Google has updated its Google Maps mapping service. The company also announced that it will stop tracking cookies in Chrome for 1% of users starting in January.
The company will begin testing disabling third-party cookies in its browser on January 4. In the initial stage, the changes will affect approximately 1% of users.
In addition, the company will stop “tracking” users through Google Maps. Now the geolocation history will not be stored on Google servers, but on users’ personal devices.
We are talking about the Maps mobile application for iOS and Android devices.
Users will receive notifications when the update hits their accounts. As experts point out, this step will allow the company to legally ignore the demands of law enforcement agencies.
Even if users decide to save information about their movements and store it in encrypted form in Google’s cloud, the company will still be unable to satisfy law enforcement requests.
