A survey showed that The terms most translated by Brazilians online in 2023 were “plot”, “lone fans” and “danger”. While an average of 51.4 thousand searches were made monthly in the first, 44.2 thousand searches were made in the second and 33.2 thousand searches were made in the third.

The research was conducted by Bureau Works, a Brazilian company with translation and content management technology. In addition to Google Translate, data was also collected from 14 websites such as Linguee, Cambridge Dictionary, Bing Translator, Infopédia and Bab.la Dicionário.

There are 100 terms in the list, and only two of them are not in English. “Hentai” from Japanese and “Viva la screw” from Spanish are ranked 34th and 54th, respectively, among the most translated ones.

Approximately 40% of the terms that interest Brazilians are song titles, which may indicate that Brazilians are interested in knowing the meaning of songs.

These musically evocative words include “Stay by my side,” “I want to be yours,” “Unholy,” “Flowers,” and “This is my life.”

Top terms that caught Brazilians’ attention for different reasons included “plot,” “lone fans,” and “danger.” The first, which translates to something like “twist,” was widely sought after for movies and TV series that featured a big twist in the plot.
