Update KB5033375, released in December 2023, fixed a bug that caused Windows 11 File Explorer to automatically open and switch focus from other applications.
This issue was first noticed by users in October 2022, when Windows 11 Moment 2 shipped with a redesigned File Explorer.
The error was that File Explorer suddenly opened in the foreground and interfered with other programs. This can happen at the most inopportune moment, for example, when working with a document or presentation.
Users described this problem as a nightmare because it looked like the computer had been hacked and someone was trying to open the folders.
In the release notes for the December update, Microsoft quietly admitted that it had fixed an issue that caused Explorer windows to appear in the foreground.
Note that Microsoft first fixed this issue in Insider preview builds in March 2023. However, the patch has only now reached all users.
