Software developer ABBYY decided to liquidate its second legal entity in Russia – Abi LLC. The company will cease operations on December 22, 2023, according to data from Rusprofile, to which RB.RU drew attention. The company has been working on the Russian market for 17 years, since 2006.
ABBYY’s clients in Russia included Sberbank, Alfa-Bank, the Federal Tax Service, the State Duma of the Russian Federation and the Federal Test Center of the Federal State Budgetary Institution.
The company was founded in 1989 by MIPT student David Yan. He wanted to develop an electronic dictionary for learning foreign languages. A program that helps you find the translation of a word in a few seconds helped make this idea a reality.
Prior to the start of Russia’s special operation in Ukraine, ABBYY transferred the rights to the vast majority of its products from Russia to its US legal entities and, after February 24, 2022, completely “repudiated” its Russian business.
Since the end of June 2023, Abbyy’s main Russian legal entity, Abi Production LLC, has been in liquidation, almost 100 percent owned by the founder of the American Abbyy Inc. The company will cease operations on the 23rd. June 2024.
