Before the New Year, telephone scammers began to disguise themselves as mobile operators. They offer the Russians to renew their SIM card contract, create copies of the person’s messaging account and extort money from their friends. This was reported to RIA Novosti by Andrey Biychuk, director of the “Defender” product at MTS.
Attackers use another method: they call a potential victim via instant messenger, setting the avatar to the name of law enforcement agencies or the logo of a large company. During the dialogue, you are asked to turn on the screencast so that you can see the one-time passwords that the victim receives.
To protect yourself, the expert recommended changing the settings in Messenger: so that only contacts can call, use caller ID and also reject all calls in which they insist on asking for something, limit the time to make a decision and intimidate.
