As part of the new study, scientists conducted three experiments involving 16 smokers. People were randomly assigned to take a brisk 10-minute walk outdoors, exercise on an indoor treadmill, or just sit for 10 minutes.

It was revealed that the desire to smoke decreased in groups that exercised both indoors and outdoors. The same goes for withdrawal symptoms and general well-being. After 10 minutes, the desire to smoke decreased slightly among those outdoors.

Another difference between the indoor and outdoor groups was the time it took to smoke another cigarette. These are 17 minutes and 26 minutes respectively.
