Advertisers, publishers and small businesses also joined the class action lawsuit with similar claims. The new case is planned to be determined for 2025; U.S. District Judge Sean Jordan scheduled jury selection to begin March 31, 2025, in Plano, Texas.
To some extent, such deadlines can be considered a victory for Google: Texas lawyers requested a hearing in August 2024, while the company’s lawyers insisted that the hearing be held in 2025. Texas declared that any delay in Google’s favor would “allow Google to continue abusing its market power at the expense of American consumers.”
In response to the plaintiffs’ claims, Google called the Texas lawsuit “deeply flawed.”
