Prototype Collector Kosutami posted photos of one of the first versions of MagSafe, which was tested inside Apple.

This charger was released in March 2017. It was around this time that Apple developed AirPower. Likely, the charging provision was developed by the same team.

The first version of MagSafe looks different from the one Apple introduced with the iPhone 12. The outside is made of rubberized plastic, similar to HomePod support. There is also an Apple logo on the back. The charger itself looks thinner and has rounded edges.

Probably after the cancellation of AirPower in 2019, the company decided not to cancel the project with MagSafe charging and eventually shipped it in 2020.
