The Ministry of Finance will resume the sale of foreign currency from January 15 as part of the budget rule. Since August, the department has only purchased foreign currency: the Ministry of Finance had to start sales due to the loss of oil and gas revenues, the volume of which turned out to be significantly lower than expected.

Ministry of Finance will begin selling foreign currency for the first time since August 2023

Starting January 15, the Ministry of Finance will begin to sell foreign currency within the framework of the budget rule. This is stated in a message from the ministry.

Sales of Chinese yuan and gold will last until February 6. The daily sales volume will be 4.1 billion rubles. Over the entire period, the total volume of funds received in foreign currency and gold allocated for sale will reach 69.1 billion rubles.

The ministry had to start selling foreign currency due to the loss of oil and gas revenues in the amount of 199.9 billion rubles.

“This value is due to the adjustment of tax legislation regarding the special tax on oil raw materials intended for processing, the presentation of the corresponding updated tax returns, as well as the deviation of the physical volume indicators of the values planned,” he said. The Ministry of Finance reported.

The Ministry of Finance has not sold currency since August 2023, only purchased it.
