This update, available in the latest Windows 11 preview build (build 23615), enables data transfer speeds of up to 80 Gbps on compatible hardware.
The USB Implementers Forum first introduced the USB4 specification in August 2019. Two years later, in the first release of Windows 11 (version 21H2), Microsoft introduced USB4 support.
In September 2022, USB4 2.0 with 80 and 120 Gbps modes was introduced through a standard Type-C connector. Microsoft is now making its operating system compatible with the latest generation of USB, which will soon appear in the first consumer products.
Although USB4 2.0 support is already available in the latest preview build of Windows 11, you’ll need to have the latest hardware to use it.
According to Microsoft, USB4 2.0 80Gbps will first be available on select devices with Intel’s recently announced 14th generation mobile processors. One of the first Windows laptops to support USB4 2.0 will be the new Razer Blade 18.
