Designed for a farm with approximately 100 cows, the system combines a surveillance camera and an artificial intelligence system. She uses a special smartphone app that sends alerts when birth time is approaching, allowing farmers to come to the rescue in time.
Nikon began AI training in fall 2021 and tested the concept on four farms in southwestern Japan in February 2023. The system recognizes signs that occur in pregnant cows before birth, such as increased activity and the beginning of the calf’s amniotic sac.
According to the owner of one of the livestock farms, the system successfully fulfills its task.
