This decision is a response to the global shift towards remote work culture and hybrid teams, accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Until recently, most digital nomads could only enter the country of their choice with a tourist visa, which was typically valid for 90 to 180 days per year.
However, governments around the world have begun to realize the benefits of attracting digital nomads for longer periods of time by providing them with additional benefits often associated with more permanent types of visas.
South Korea’s new digital nomad visa will allow some foreign residents to stay in the country for up to two years while maintaining their jobs in their home country.
To qualify for the visa, applicants must submit proof of an annual income of more than $65,860, as well as additional documentation such as proof of employment, criminal record, and proof of private health insurance.
This visa will allow holders to stay in Korea for one year initially, up to a maximum of two years, with the option to extend for another year.
