He said the key change will be a new 48MP 1/2.6-inch sensor, replacing the current 12MP 1/3.1-inch sensor used in the iPhone 16 Pro.

In 2025, both the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are expected to feature telephoto lenses with Tetraprism technology (not just the Pro Max model like the iPhone 15 series).

This means that both iPhone 16 Pro models will have at least 5x optical zoom and 25x digital zoom.

Kuo isn’t yet sure if the improved Tetraprism camera will be exclusive to the iPhone 17 Pro Max. If so, both iPhone 18 Pro models will get the feature in 2026. The new Tetraprism camera will require a completely new prism design to reduce the height of the camera.
