D., assistant professor of dermatology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. Oyeteva Oyerinde gave some tips to keep your skin glowing during winter months.

First, change your daily cleansing, moisturizing and sun protection routine. For example, if you usually use lotion, consider swapping it out for a thicker, creamier moisturizer. If you usually use creamy moisturizers, consider switching to an ointment-type moisturizer.

If you enjoy outdoor activities or winter sports, don’t forget to apply sunscreen before going out.

You can prevent acne that occurs during the winter months by following a good skin care regimen. The lips and skin around the eyes are especially sensitive to cold and friction.

For irritated skin, it is recommended to apply Vaseline to the affected areas. It will create a thick moisture barrier that will protect these areas from wind and cold.

Dry and cracked lips can be treated with Vaseline or hydrocortisone lip balms.

Dry air can also cause more severe symptoms in people with eczema, psoriasis, or other rashes. Eczema is especially severe in children during the winter months, and in the elderly, skin irritation is more common at this time of year.
