Information security researcher Tommy Mysk reported that some popular applications may secretly collect data about iPhone owners.

They do this by limiting push notifications. Using the built-in capabilities of this system, you can send notifications with external content or decrypt encrypted messages.

According to Mysk, TikTok, Facebook (belongs to Meta, banned in Russia and recognized as extremist), Twitter, LinkedIn and Bing, consider it for analytics analysis. It contains unique device identifiers and information to create a “digital snapshot” of the device (hardware and software configurations). This information can be used, in particular, to set up targeted advertising.

This is against Apple’s data privacy policy.

The company will reportedly soon ask developers why their apps need access to the API, which is often used to take digital impressions.
