First, the frame was removed from the device, cleaned with a sanding block, and then the titanium was coated with a weak solution of hydrofluoric acid, which is extremely toxic even in small concentrations. Immediately after this, the frame was dipped in baking soda solution to neutralize the acid.

Anodizing was done using a sponge soaked in trisodium phosphate electrolyte solution clamped to the negative terminal and connected to a power supply. The anode wire was connected to the titanium frame. The result is a layer of oxide that glows in different colours.

Experts said that fingerprints and various stains are more visible on the surface covered with an oxide layer as a result of anodization, and traces of sweat and oil become an additional oil film.

iFixit experts insisted that such an experiment should not be repeated at home, as it requires special conditions and skill.
