CIA employees who collect information about Russia have been banned from using Telegram on their work computers, Bloomberg writes.

We are talking about analysts who engage in open source intelligence. They were prohibited from keeping Telegram in order to monitor Russian bloggers. It is unknown whether this limitation applies to the web version.

The publication does not explain the reasons for the ban. This is probably done for safety and extra caution. For many in the US, Telegram is a reliable messenger, although Durov never said that it was not.

In addition, CIA employees were also prohibited from carrying personal devices on the job. So they left the CIA building to open Telegram. [Bloomberg]
