The Federal Antimonopoly Service considered the advertising of Alfa Bank debit cards to be inappropriate. Now the credit institution faces a fine.

FAS considered advertising for Alfa Bank debit cards inappropriate

As explained in the FAS message, the service received complaints about advertising for a debit card placed on advertising structures, as well as shown on television. According to the complaints, the ads claimed that all transfers and debit card payments were free. At the same time, the announcement lacked “significant conditions regarding the limitations of the option,” the FAS concluded.

The service gave Alfa Bank 15 days to fulfill the order; Otherwise, the credit institution will have to pay a fine of up to 500 thousand rubles.

At the end of last year, the FAS opened three proceedings against Alfa Bank. In each case, the violations were related to advertising. First, the bank was held responsible for illegible footnotes regarding the free service period.

In the second case, it was advertising with a minimum loan rate of 4.5%, the presentation of which “did not allow the text to be perceived in its entirety.”

The FAS also opened a third case due to footnotes with important information that were communicated “in a manner that was difficult to understand in a short period of time.”
