GDDR7 16Gb allows the use of PAM3 and NRZ signaling to achieve high data rates of up to 37Gbps per pin. Unlike previous models, GDDR7 uses PAM3 encoding, which provides a balance between high-speed PAM4 and traditional NRZ signaling. This approach provides higher data transfer rates per cycle, reducing the dependence on higher memory bus frequencies.

As the industry looks for alternative solutions to increase frequencies, GDDR7 is emerging as a promising competitor. It promises higher performance than GDDR6, as well as lower power consumption and application costs than GDDR6X.
