iCloud now supports Apple ID security keys on Windows

Users who have physical security keys configured in their Apple ID accounts You can now use them to log in on iCloud for Windows. Thanks to the new feature announced by Apple on Tuesday (6), it is possible to access your profile in the cloud service using your computer without having to enter a verification code.

First released in early 2023 for iOS 16.3, iPadOS 16.3, and macOS 13.2, security key support is an authentication method that adds an extra layer of protection to iCloud-registered accounts. Optionally when enabled requires the use of a device to complete two-factor authentication.

According to Apple, this is an extra feature for those who want to protect the data stored in their accounts from targeted attacks such as social engineering and phishing scams. Enabling the feature prevents potential attackers from accessing the second authentication factor.

Support for security keys found in iCloud for Windows Starting from version 15 of the cloud storage platform application, can be downloaded from Microsoft Store. Enabling the function requires caution, as losing keys or a trusted authentication device can lead to permanent account banning.

Compatible keys
