Sberbank, VTB, Sovcombank and Tinkoff Bank disclosed data on bonuses paid within the framework of loyalty programs, including cashback. In total, in 2023 they distributed more than 200 billion rubles, 50 billion rubles more than in 2022.
Vedomosti notes that Sberbank clients spent 140 billion in national currency from the Sberspasibo program (1 bonus = 1 ruble) on purchases with bonuses, 2.3 times more than the previous year. The increase in spending is also due to the growth of the project’s clients: there are 10 million more.
Tinkoff became the first in terms of the amount of refunds paid in rubles: over the past year, it returned 83 billion rubles to customers (+28% by 2022), of which 1 billion rubles were made through purchases through Tinkoff Pay.
VTB awarded its clients 24.3 billion in bonuses and rubles (+6% by 2022), but more in bonuses – 22.8 billion (+12% by 2022), and 1 bonus here costs less than 1 ruble ( 0.85 rubles). Sovcombank returned about 3.5 billion rubles with refund points (+10% until 2022).
An increase in accruals, without disclosing the amount, was also observed in Promsvyazbank (+20%), Alfa Bank and Dom.RF (2 times more).
The needs also changed throughout the year: if in 2022 most bonuses were canceled for construction and cultural leisure, in 2023 the main categories were supermarkets, cafes and restaurants.
They were in the top 5 of Sberbank, VTB, Doma.RF. Alfa observes an increase of 25% in spending in stores and 53% in public catering. VTB also sees a trend of purchasing certificates at your favorite stores to get cash back bonuses.
The bank’s customers receive reimbursements mainly for expenses on supermarkets, household items and repairs, clothing/shoes, medicines, taxis, gas stations and other automobile, travel and equipment services.
