213 people over the age of 18 participated in the new study. They used electronic cigarettes regularly, occasionally, or not at all.
It turned out that people who do not use electronic cigarettes perceive sweet smells as more pleasant than those of electronic cigarettes. But there was no difference in the perception of tastes or salty odors.
One reason for this effect may be that nicotine enhances the effects of stimuli. Therefore, in the absence of nicotine, sweet smells are perceived as less pleasant.
