California’s gun control law is unconstitutional, according to Judge Andrew Schopler. In that case, a district judge sided with the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), a firearms trade association that sued the state and said California’s restrictions violated the Second Amendment, which protects the right to keep and bear arms.

Schopler noted that parts of the gun control law signed by California Governor Gavin Newsom in 2022 are unconstitutional. Therefore, Schopler did not consider the Second Amendment issue.
