On the eve of the premiere Top Shooter: Maverick, we knew that the production relied on scenes with real planes, and not on ordinary computer graphics. This situation apparently led them to in cooperation with the US Air Force, who provided aircraft and pilots for filming in the air. However, there was one particular scene that, to the surprise of the production, became the subject of deliberate espionage.

In addition to fighters and pilots, some US Air Force bases were also used in production. However, one scene in particular with the fictional SR-72 Darkstar aircraft, a special hangar is required. The one that really gave the impression of a secret object. So Joseph Kosinski, director Top Shooter: Maverickstarted looking for a suitable place, as he said in an interview Collider.

While visiting an air force base in China Lake, California, an army officer gave him an order: you can take pictures anywhere except a certain hangar. “You can take pictures as long as you don’t point the camera there”, said. Instinctively, Kosinski turned to look at the forbidden place. “I look over there, there is a hangar that looks very interesting, with a tower, barbed wire around it and a blue door.”

The director’s curiosity went even further, and he directly asked what this place was or what they kept. However, the officer made it clear, “Don’t even think about it. There you can take pictures of us. Don’t take pictures. Don’t even look at it.”

Making it clear that he couldn’t get visual evidence of the hangar, Kosinski asked if they could at least get through the hangar, and the soldier accepted the offer. Once there, the director realized that it was the perfect location for the Dark Star scene from Top Shooter: Maverick.

“There’s an episode where we have a secret plane that they take out at night, and it seems like the perfect place for it,” Kosinski told the officer. The latter sensed the intention of the guest, but could not fulfill his wishes. Person responsible for Top Shooter: Maverick He understood and left the base.

Dark Star Top Shooter: Maverick attracts spies

To his surprise, two days later he was contacted with unexpected news: he could record that scene from Top Shooter: Maverick in a secret hangar. Of course, the Air Force had to remove what was inside first.

“Well, if you tell us when you want to shoot there, we will take what is there and deliver it a few days early so that you get the building.”

The process went smoothly and the crew Top Shooter: Maverick He took the Dark Star model to the China Lake base. Surely you remember that in the film we see when the plane leaves the hangar before the flight with Tom Cruise on board. Well, at that moment, as insignificant as it seemed – to the real world, of course – he had deliberate spies watch the place.

The officers told Kosinski that discovered how some satellites directed their vision based on. Probably in order to take a picture of the Dark Star. “If they could get closer, they would see Tom Cruise in the cockpit, which I think is great,” he added.

The Air Force had nothing to worry about because the Darkstar was an invention Top Shooter: Maverick. Of course, it is completely unknown what was taken from the hangar before filming. Without a doubt, an interesting anecdote from one of the most successful films of 2022.
