This AI robot dog looks like something out of Terminator

Tecno Mobile took part in Mobile World Congress 2024 announce Tecno Dynamic 1, robotic dog and augmented by artificial intelligence, reviving the futuristic sci-fi dreams of millions of nerds.

Dynamic 1 has been carefully crafted to mimic a real dog as closely as possible, and its design is based on the German Shepherd breed. A cooling system inside the Dynamic 1’s knees allows the robot to mimic a dog’s movements, allowing it to climb stairs, bend over and offer a paw for a handshake. Four microphones work with an artificial intelligence algorithm inside the dog’s head to detect audio signals, so you can treat it like a normal dog, but without any poop to pick up.

An 8-core ARM processor powers the HyperSense Fusion artificial intelligence system, which is tasked with ensuring that the robot can constantly adjust its actions while walking. Data from the Intel RealSense S430 depth camera and dual optical and infrared sensors help you identify obstacles and guide your dog around them, ensuring he can get up if he falls. There’s also 64GB of internal storage, Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 support, and smartphone app controls. Fido definitely doesn’t have that.

However, the Dynamic 1 does have an Achilles heel. Even though the battery has a massive 15,000mAh capacity, it won’t power it for long as it only lasts about 90 minutes between charges. However, there is a modular design that allows for quick battery replacement, so man’s new best friend can last longer.

While this first generation of AI robot dogs is unlikely to see widespread adoption and will likely have its fair share of bugs and problems, there is definitely a place for humble robot dogs in the future.
