Twitter has taken a new step to open the door to more text on its platform. The social network introduced notesa new feature that, as its name suggests, allows write long notes, the ability to add items such as images and embedded tweets. Mostly it’s about posts like the ones we can find on a blog.

But don’t worry too much. This new note-taking feature is initially available for a limited group of users in the US, Canada, UK and Ghana. In any case, it’s worth clarifying that the ability to view and share them will be available “in most countries,” according to Twitter.

A new Notes section will appear in the menu on the left side of the web screen. From there, users will be able to create posts to later share on Twitter with their followers. Nonetheless, each note will have a highlighted linkwhich will allow you to share them outside of Twitter and even view them without registering on the platform.

As explained on social media in the FAQ section, other users will be able to interact with the author’s notes in the same way as with a normal tweet. This means that likes, retweets, or replies will be on the tweet containing the article, and not on the specific elements included in it.

And, as we said at the beginning, Twitter Notes will give authors the ability to expand easily. Messages may have maximum 2500 words, a more than generous expansion from the 280 characters of a typical tweet. At the same time, titles will contain no more than 100 characters.

With its new note-taking tool, Twitter wants to beautify writers

Is Twitter changing from short form (tweets) to long form (notes)?
No. The goal of the tool we’re testing is to provide Twitter creators with additional options in addition to tweets.

Another important fact to keep in mind: what happens to articles created by users whose tweets are protected. In these cases, the note cards you share in Tweets will only be visible to your followers; however, all those who receive a unique link to the article will be able to log in and read it, even if they do not have access to the author’s account.

The new Twitter note-taking feature will only be available in selected territories. at least the first two months. After this period, we will see if the company decides to expand its presence in other countries. And it will also be interesting to see how the tool evolves over time and what features it adds based on feedback from early adopters.
